At around 5 a.m. on Sept. 29, crews were called to the 300 block of North Charles Street, where there was a reported fire inside a manhole with flames showing near the intersection of Pleasant Street.
Power was temporarily shut off in the area while crews battled the blaze, which was declared under control at around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The incident and subsequent investigation led to multiple street closures "for a prolonged period of time," on North Charles Street between Lexington Street and Mulberry Street, as well as Saratoga Street, from St. Paul to Sharp Street.
As of 9 a.m. power was still down, though crews were working to restore it and get the streets open, according to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott.
More information is expected to be provided.
